I made these rice krispie treats pops for a friend’s wedding last weekend. The non-pareils at the bottom were a nice colorful surprise when you lifted it from the wrapper.

Today we visited the Oak Park farmers market just to get these donuts. These donuts are famous. They are made fresh right there throughout market hours and you can buy them by the dozen or individually. I have to say these are my favorite donuts ever and they are cake donuts too! Super tender and still warm with a light crunchy exterior. We nibbled them as we strolled through the rest of the market.

In June I was asked to bake the wedding cake for two close friends of mine. I was so honored! I am actually not that experienced in cake making and I know this cake is far from perfect but it is most certainly the prettiest cake that I’ve made. I was so proud of it. It was four layers and I used Dorie Greenspan’s recipe for Perfect Party Cake. I also made those flags and embroidered their names on it. Alas, the day of the wedding was insane and this was the only good picture I got of it.

Assembled market findings for an impromptu picnic at the Marché de la Bastille. This knife was one of the best things I brought back from Paris.

It is truly heartbreaking watching what has happened and is happening in Japan. I am holding a raffle to help the relief efforts and all money collected will be donated to the Red Cross.

I know lemonade is such a warm weather thing but citrus is actually in season during the winter. My local market had a great deal on lemons so here I am today making lemonade. This is my favorite lemonade.
Lemonade!enough for a 2 Qt pitcher
5 medium lemons1 C sugarWater
- Peel the zest off the lemons with the vegetable peeler. You don’t have to be too careful but try to get as little of the pith as possible.- Toss the peels with the sugar in a bowl. Let sit for an hour, tossing again halfway through. This helps draw out the lemon’s fragrant oils.- Squeeze the juice of the lemons into the sugar mixture. - Pour about 4-5 cups of water into the bowl and stir until the sugar is dissolved. - Strain mixture into your pitcher and add enough water to fill the container. Stir well.- Serve cold or hot.

When its summer, all I want to eat is ice cream. When its winter, all I think of is eating ice cream in the hot, humid summer. Yes, ice cream is the albatross I must wear about my neck.
New poster in my shop!
